The Jokers were an instrumental surf band from Belgium, starting in 1961 & were very popular at home & in Japan (much like their contemporaries The Sputniks & the Ventures). Throughout the 60s the band did their surf /rock'n'Roll thing, had hits, did tours, christmas albums etc. By the time 1970 came around, they were feeling the shift in musical tastes & saw that their brand of Surfpop wasn't as "hip" as it once was, so they booked a studio, got extremely drunk & decided to do "their" version of what they saw was happening in the music scene at that point. Basically what we have here, is an exploitation album full of "Psyche", floaty folky tunes, some wah-wah-induced freak rock & some cover tunes like "Sunny" & "Suicide is painless". It's all very well-behaved & nothing extreme or exceptional, but a weird artifact nonetheless. Pressed up on their own Reward records & 400 copies, it soon disappeared & no one thought much of it. Now nearly 50 years later, it's a rarity that is sought after by Belgian pop/rock collectors. Never released on cd, this is a direct vinyl rip of my own copy, which i found by accident years ago for peanuts. 11 tracks, 39 minutes.
