Thanks for coming by and SUBSCRIBING! Again, THUMBS UP is necessary because this might be the best #bobdylan audience recording/performance combo to come out of the NET era (sorry again, Red Bluff*). Courtesy of Crystal Cat records, simply called Kansas City 2002, I had to add the subtitle Summer Nights Are Gone to draw attention to the explosive, perhaps unrivaled version of Summer Days that appears here. The guitar break drives to extraordinary heights, rolling one climax over another, with each player fanning the flames higher and higher, pushing the song to almost 10 minutes in length. Concert goers were amazed to watch the performances of this track in the waning days of 2002 as the joy shared between bandmates were impossible to miss. Tony Garnier would lift up his standup bass to strum it like a guitar, Bob would play the keys practically kneeling on the floor and some even reported seeing Larry help bob by jamming the keyboard with his heel while balancing on his other leg, wailing on his guitar. Not to be left behind, George adds a near snare tearing machine gun into the mix. The wild and loose stage antics might have been a going away gift to Charlie Sexton, who would not return to the line up the following year, a heartbreaking revelation to those of us that witnessed this incredible band in 2002. And that's just one song! Add in covers of The #RollingStones, Warren Zevon and #NeilYoung to the mix and this night easily ranks up to Legendary, thankfully captured with the clarity of a soundboard recording but with the reaction of the jubilant audience. It would have been a shame to miss hearing the crowd reaction to their city's shout out during Highwater, and the appreciation of the Summer Days guitar break.
