Boulez-Chereau Production Bayreuther Festival, 1980 Siegfried: Manfred Jung Mime: Heinz Zednik Brünnhilde: Gwyneth Jones Wotan (Disguised as The Wanderer): Donald McIntyre Alberich: Hermann Becht Fafner: Fritz Hübner Erda: Ortrun Wenkel Waldvogel (The Woodbird): Norma Sharp 0:00 - ACT I; PRELUDE 3:34 - SCENE I; a frustrated Mime sits at the anvil in his forest shelter, he fails to reforge Nothung to kill the dragon Fafner with. 6:55 - Siegfried appears, carrying a bear with him, asking if the most recent sword is finished. 8:40 - Siegfried breaks the sword and lets his anger out on Mime. 10:32 - Mime says Siegfried is ungrateful and lists the things he did for him; they talk about the role of a parent. 18:55 - Siegfried assaults Mime, demanding that Mime tell him about his parents. 25:49 - Siegfried, longing for freedom, tells Mime to finish the sword so he can explore the world. He leaves. 28:07 - SCENE II; the Wanderer appears. He asks for shelter. To show his submission, the Wanderer suggests the Three Questions game. 32:42 - Mime's questions are simple, to reveal who the Wanderer truly is - Wotan (the questions are about what race each inhabits a part of the world). 42:47 - Wotan in turn tells Mime how to reforge Nothung with a riddle. "The one who doesn't know fear will be able to restore the sword." 48:58 - Wotan leaves. 49:49 - SCENE III; Wotan casts Loge, making Mime see an illusion of fire, making him think Fafner is imminent. 50:50 - Siegfried returns and after hearing what Mime learnt, proceeds to reforge Nothung himself. 1:14:08 - Siegfried restores Nothung triumphantly 1:15:19 - ACT II, PRELUDE 1:20:18 - SCENE I; Wotan visits Alberich who is patrolling Fafner's cave in search of a way to steal the ring. Wotan admits he isn't after the Ring; he came to warn Alberich of a hero who will destroy his plans. 1:32:00 - To show his indifference, Wotan wakes Fafner, who doesn't heed his warning. Fafner falls asleep again. 1:36:04 - Wotan disappears, and soon after, Alberich too. 1:39:05 - SCENE II; Mime and Siegfried approach, since Mime wants to use Siegfried to kill Fafner, getting the Ring. 1:44:28 - Mime leaves Siegfried alone. 1:45:55 - Siegfried is alone in the forest, the murmurs making him contemplate his mother's fate... 1:49:00 - Loge in the form of the Bird appears, making Siegfried want to talk to it in his loneliness. 1:55:04 - Siegfried uses his horn to talk with the Bird but instead wakes up Fafner. 1:59:25 - They fight. 2:00:17 - Siegfried rams his sword into Fafner's heart. 2:03:18 - The dying Fafner warns Siegfried about the Ring's Curse. 2:05:07 - Siegfried tastes Fafner's blood, and realizes he can talk to the Bird now! The Bird tells him to retrieve the treasures from the cave. 2:07:02 - SCENE III; in the pursuit of the treasures, Mime and Alberich fight. 2:09:12 - Siegfried returns and they both flee. 2:11:00 - The Bird tells Siegfried to be wary of Mime. 2:13:19 - Mime wants to persuade Siegfried into taking his potion, but the power of the Dragon blood makes Siegfried look past Mime's flattering words, revealing his true intentions to him. 2:18:50 - Siegfried puts an end to the insane dwarf. 2:25:40 - The Bird tells the now lost and unsure Siegfried to seek out the sleeping Brünnhilde. 2:28:38 - The Bird guides the now-excited Siegfried. 2:29:53 - ACT III, PRELUDE 2:31:45 - SCENE I; Wotan wakes a confused Erda, who can't see the future anymore. He "kills" her, saying she isn't needed anymore; the age of the gods is coming to an end. 2:47:19 - SCENE II; Wotan proceeds to greet Siegfried. 2:51:46 - The misbehaving of Siegfried isn't to Wotan's liking; the impatient Siegfried tells him to get out of his way. 2:58:04 - Siegfried cuts Wotan's spear in half, debilitating the king of the gods. 3:02:16 - SCENE III; Siegfried arrives on the mountaintop. 3:15:14 - He wakes Brünnhilde with a kiss; Brünnhilde awakes in the golden dawn. 3:23:46 - Brünnhilde tells of her past. 3:30:44 - Brünnhilde is scared of tainting the gleaming Siegfried with her ordinariness. 3:31:45 - Siegfried tells her that he only wants her as herself, not as a warrior. 3:34:30 - She delves further into how she isn't worthy to be the woman of the "one who inherits the world". 3:38:48 - Siegfried doesn't care. For him to be with Brünnhilde, he would sacrifice everything else. 3:42:02 - Brünnhilde can't restrain herself. Her irrationality grows. 3:43:59 - In the Apotheosis both of them curse the world; they only need each other, and everyone else can perish. First premiered at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus on 16 August 1876, as part of the first complete performance of The Ring cycle. Also, ignore these dumb copyright claims.
