Growing up in Limerick, he endured a very turbulent childhood with an alcoholic mother and a father who did all he could to keep his family together. There was "head lice, neglect, and violence" at home. When Don took his first drink, he "found the answer" to his suffering. His first drink turned into a monstrous addiction to alcohol and he faced ruin and losing everything after repeatedly being evicted, losing several jobs and destroying personal relationships. But step by step, Don has rebuilt his life. Now a proud grandfather, he has one more layer of his life that he is currently dealing with - surviving sexual abuse.
