When shopping or purchasing your new or used BMW with the S55. I can't stand when people say. Don't use kick down because of the crank hub could fail or don't floor it because of fear of the crank hub failing. This is a rare failure yet people are spending thousands of dollars in upgrading the crank hub bolt. This problem affect maybe 50-100 cars? Out of the thousands of vehicles are there. I'd say that's pretty good. There are lot more serious issues to worry about instead .99% chance this could go wrong. There isn't any link to amount of power or time this part could go bad since it doesn't know the difference between a stock car or tuned car. It's all based on engine timing. Maybe a few cars didn't get the right factory specs and with perfect scenario of high power and high traction, coupled with the abrupt shifting, maybe you would have an issue.
