Kamen Rider Ryuki [PS1] - Metalgelas

This is a play-through using Metalgelas in the PS1 game Kamen Rider Ryuki. Read on below for more information... Metalgelas is an unlockable playable character in this game. ===== About Metalgelas ===== Metalgelas is the contract monster of Kamen Rider Gai. Here, he is his own separate character. Being a contract monster character, he does not have any card deck abilities/moves. Therefore, his gameplay is completely focused on basic moves and throws... and I think it more than enough makes up for his lack of card abilities, because his strikes are fast and inflicts high energy depletion. He also has one of those great mid-range jumps where it's not too low and not too high that when jumping forward towards the opponent, it perfectly sets him up to land jumping moves easily... and being a mid/low jump, it's hard for the opponent to react to it as well. ===== About Kamen Rider Ryuki ===== This is a good, well-built game for the PS1. The graphics are pretty good and it runs at 60fps... this is impressive for the PS1 standards. From what I can tell, the in-fight character model designs look very accurate to their TV series counterparts. There is a dedicated story mode in the game which I think focuses on the main character. The gameplay consists of a basic fighting system, with the emphasis on the card deck feature. You can use these cards during battle to give you specific powers, such as a special weapon, an support character or a super move... if you've ever played the Touhou 7.5/10.5/12.3 fighters then you'll know what I mean. When using the special move or super move cards, it goes into a short cut-scene (using the in-fight models) demonstrating the opponent getting hit by it... it's quite interesting and funny at times, and really does give it that "dramatic superhero scene" effect. The super moves are definitely the highlight of this game... if a super move card becomes available, it plays a special theme which leads to a song. My guess is that this theme is an official theme of the franchise? The throws (one button is designated for throws) in this game are also cool as well. Most of the music is your typical "superhero-rock" type soundtrack.
