The last time I shot a music video was for my friends and it's always gorilla style. But I got a chance to step out of my comfort zone and shoot a music video for the artist common and here are some of the things I learned after looking back on the day. After every shoot I'm always trying to figure out what I could have done better and how to grow for my next project no matter what it is. As DPs we continue to grow and learn and our work continue to get better and better. Honestly this goes for shooting anything but these are the tips that stood out to me the most when shooting a music video recently and I just wanted to share with you all! When you're on a crew and you don't have to be director and DP and gaffer and everything, you get an opportunity to focus in on one role and it's more collaborative, but also you have to know how to manage your crew your position. So here are three tips that stood out to me on this music video. This was a full circle moment for me! I worked with common before but I wasn't in charge of the video during that time. So being able to chat with him and chill with him was super dope. I hope these tips help you all as you continue in your DP role and honestly any role! Sorry about the pops in the audio.
