He soon pursued this as a career and eventually became one of the foremost photographers for top magazines, including Life Magazine. But he soon realized the limits of photography and wanted a better medium to express himself. Stanley Kubrick would go on to become one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. He took an interest in film directing and would gain a reputation for being difficult to work with but also being a perfectionist and a master of his craft. He went on to direct great films such as The Killing, Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barry Lyndon, Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut. These films have all gone on to be masterpieces and one can watch them and feel that Stanley Kubrick was proud of his work. But ever the perfectionist, he often would spend hours just on a single take of a film. He loved his work but wasn’t always satisfied with the end result – a common feat for many great filmmakers. But this changed when he completed Eyes Wide Shut. This was a film he was truly proud of – perhaps more so than his others. He felt it was his greatest cinematic achievement and it seems fortuitous that he died shortly after its completion. But, is it fortuitous, or is it mysterious?
