They could be for specific things like holiday cards, or just general fall family sessions. Clients usually come back a few times per year, over multiple years. Rather than that, I would personally look at what other people have done in the past. Not to directly copy them, but there’s a chance the market has already been set, and people in your local area are used to a ballpark price on mini sessions. You can either go low, or high depending on a few factors. I personally shoot on location when possible so I don’t have to set up any sets. But if you live in a place that is cold in the winter, you might have to. There are likely studios or spaces you can rent. They don’t have to be conventional either. Okay Just somewhere with good light that represents your brand well. For actual dollar amounts. Around here $150 - 350 seems pretty standard for the mini session, and 5 to 10 edited images. While you could include all the images you take in that price, it’s better to offer individual image cost beyond what’s included. And also offer a full gallery buyout for an additional price. Say you’re doing $300 for the mini session price - my strategy would be to price the full gallery buyout at something like $200. Which is less than the session fee. Then individual images for purchase are $25 or $30. So if they want 8 additional images, it’s better to just buy the gallery straight out. PLEASE be transparent about this pricing before the session. You can also price the full gallery buy above the cost of the session, but I have some sort of weird internal thing that makes me feel a little scammy, and I don’t think it leaves the best lasting impression. The idea is you want these people coming back over and over. I’d rather go for the long term $5000 sale over the immediate $1000 sale. Marketing tips Build some social media advertisements in Photoshop, or Canva. Better yet, make some videos yourself in Premiere. I’ve had incredible success doing these offers a few days before Christmas. As a last minute gift idea, it’s great.
