The character of each song has to be assumed smoothly, like a change of clothes. Its not easy, but it mustnt look too difficult. Its not a world in which the conscious mind can be allowed too much say, or all illusion will be stripped away. Nontheless for me its a (strangely) familiar world. This is especially so in the Passionskirche, where Ive now played a number of times. Each time is different - its a matter of course for me to regard every night, every performance as unique. The songs played change night by night, and even those which are repeated regularly differ wildly from show to show. And this performance? Highly representative, Id say, of PH-in-concert in 1992. Happily, though somewhat fatigued by a consistent bout of touring, somewhat stressed by the presence of the cameras, somewhat wild in mind and heart, as ever, on stage, I think I managed to stay on the tightrope I attempt to traverse in each show. This is the documentary evidence. This is the case.
