Her sword bestows her with power but also causes her to become more talkative. Alk and the others decide to welcome Rinoa to come along with them, offering to help her look more closely into the sword's properties. Courage to Speak: After taking down a thief in the city, Rinoa is discovered by her friend Layna. Rinoa runs away to the Guild, but after Nimbus teases her. Rinoa then encounters Layna being reprimanded by her father, and she manages to summon the courage to speak up for and save her friend without drawing courage from her sword. Hartstrahl, to Me!: Redd, Layna's father, informs Rinoa that Layna has gone missing in the Kaleidoscope. Rinoa rushes there to save her friend, but a Star Augar mage takes control of Redd, forcing his hand in order to bring down Rinoa. However, despite lacking her sword, Rinoa discovers her own power, breaks free, and defeats the mage.
