Des Moines police: Water rescue crews on Raccoon River for 'presumed drowning incident'

Recovery efforts are underway following a "presumed drowning incident" in the Raccoon River, the Des Moines Police Department said. Police and the Des Moines Fire Department Water Emergency Team received a report about a person in the Raccoon River near SW 2nd Street around 10:50 a.m. Friday. Witnesses told officials the person had gone underwater and did not reappear. "Recovery efforts have been temporarily suspended due to risks associated with debris and water flow rate," police said Friday afternoon.
