After waiting 6 months for planning permission to be granted, in January we discovered that we have had squatters move into our vacant care home, further delaying us from starting our refurbishment project. The squatters left us a letter on the door of our property claiming their squatters rights, changed the locks to our gate and had been living there for over a week before we found out. We would be committing a criminal offence by entering our property or attempting to move the squatters by using force. In UK law, squatting in a commercial property is seen as a civil matter and not a criminal matter therefore there is not much the police can do.
