DYA717 Maui Graduation May 24, 2024

May 24, 2024 -- I flew over to Maui on May 24-25 to attend a high school graduation celebration. The celebration was at Seabury Hall, a private college-prep school in Makawao, Maui. Makawao, a small town of about 8,000 folks, is located on the northwest slope of Haleakala Mountain of Maui and is called Upcountry Maui. The area is famous for its Paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys). It’s annual rodeo in July is among the largest Paniolo event in Hawaii. More recently, Makawao has become known for its community of artisans with the community’s support of art studios, galleries and workshops. Got into Maui around 1:05 p.m. after about a 50-minute flight from Honolulu. We picked up car from ALAMO. We headed into Wailea and checked into the ANDAZ hotel and rested a bit. Then around 4:30 p.m. we headed to the campus. There was a 5:00 p.m. baccalaureate (mass/service) but we missed it. The luau started at 6:00 p.m. After the luau meal, the group headed to the school athletic building (gym) and the moms of the 2024 graduates performed a hula honoring their sons/daughters graduation. Being amateurs, a lot of them once in a life-time dancers, they did a wonderful job dancing in sync to a nice hula. HANA HOU! There is a separate Youtube for this performance.
