Painting rocks in watercolour 2 ways part 1

There are so many different techniques to use in watercolour (watercolor) and using a credit card to lift out or manipulate the paint is one way that I sometimes paint a rocky headland without actually painting the rocks. It is quick and easy but there is a trick to the amount of pigment that you use. The first wash should be light colours (colors) and thin/wet. While damp you then drop thick almost Vegemite/butter consistency pigment over the top in a range of dark colours (colors). Then while it is still wet use the corner & side of a loyalty card to scratch the pigment. If you have the card too much up on the corner you will create a divot that pigment runs into and leaves a dark line. I bend the card a little so that I am on the corner and partial side of the card. My palette generally consists of - (all W&N unless specified) French Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Turquoise, Alizarin Crimson, Rose Madder Genuine, Cad Red Light, Schminke Cad Red Orange, Light Red, Brown Madder, Neutral Tint, Yellow Ochre, Naples Yellow, Cad Yellow Light, Indian Yellow, Diox Purple, Green Gold, Indigo, Pyrolene Green, Holbein Lavender, Art Spectrum Australian Grey, Art Spectrum White Gouache. Depending on the subject matter I will add some other colours to my palette as needed. When I am working on flowers I add some pinks like Quin Magenta, and Purple Lake to the mix. It is a weasel hair brush that can be widened out to a flattish tip which I find great for a range of mark making.
