Originally a 1988 arcade game by Capcom, this was converted by Sega to their new 16-Bit Mega Drive console in 1989. Despite being one of the earliest games for the console, this game stands up well today and hasn't aged badly at all. Forgotten Worlds is a scrolling shoot 'em up with a twist. As your rocket man flies around the levels, he can fire in any direction. A bit confusing at first, the controls are a muchmore manageable if you select autofire from the options menu. I suppose it's technically cheating, but there was no way I'd have got through the game without it. The arcade original allowed you control the direction of fire with a second stick, a bit like the right analogue stick on PlayStation and Xbox controllers. The aim of the game is to defeat false gods, which is done by flying around levels and shooting things before being faced with some fairly tough boss battles. You can upgrade weapons and purchase other bonuses and goodies from shops which appear through the game. This is a very faithful conversion of a great, if largely forgotten, arcade game. As it's a Capcom game, it's not easy, but it is extremely playable.
