Stroke with protein S deficiency - Protein S (and protein C) are natural proteins in the blood that function to prevent blood clots. One contributor to blood clots may be deficiency of protein S (or protein C). This deficiency can be acquired, due to a blood clot, pregnancy, blood thinners or other reasons. Protein S deficiency can also be inherited in about 1:20,000 people. Protein S (and protein C) deficiency is associated with pediatric stroke. Please ask your physician if you should be tested for these and other blood clotting conditions, particularly if your family history includes other family members with blood clotting concerns.
