Washin Kai Presents "The World of Noh Drama" with Takeda Munenori

This event was held online on October 13, 2021, hosted by Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington, and Washin Kai - Friends of Classical Japanese at UW. Takeda Munenori, the world-renowned Noh performer and his ensemble of actors and musicians present selected scenes from a number of Noh performances from Tokyo, Japan, (shortened for this version) with commentary from Professor Paul Atkins. This event also features a demonstration of tools and materials used in Noh drama, followed by the recorded Q&A with Master Takeda Munenori from Tokyo and Professor Paul Atkins, moderated by Professor Stephen Sumida. Washin Kai 和心会, also known as Friends of Classical Japanese at UW, was formed in the spring of 2018 to preserve and strengthen classical Japanese studies at UW. We are a group of volunteers from the Puget Sound community with strong ties to the university and to Japan. Our main goal is to create a permanent fund at UW, dedicated to supporting the study of classical Japanese language, literature and culture.
