Known as the BBQ Capitol of Texas, Lockhart is a 19th century historical town that has all the charm and flair of and old western town. The history of Texas Barbecue truly begins in Lockhart, in 1875. A man named Jesse Swearingen opened the first meat market that first served barbecued meats on the regular. From there it has taken off due to great BBQ family names such as, The Kruez's, The Blacks and many more. Come along as I stop at four different barbecue joints in Lockhart: Blacks Barbecue, Kruez and Smitty's Meat Markets, as well as Chisholm Trail BBQ. It's gonna be a meaty affair.
