In the early 1980s the R44 child car seat regulation was introduced. There have been several amendments over the years, the most recent one was R44/04 which came out in 2005. July 2013 saw the introduction of a new regulation called R129, which aims to make child seats safer, easier to understand and less likely to be used incorrectly. For ten years both R44/04 and R129 car seat were available until R44 was discontinued in September 2023. In this video I explain the differences between the regulations, from weight and height limits and crash test dummies, to the physical differences between the seats.
