So everyone is taking about the 2018-2019 Mustang GT "typewriter" "BBQ" Tick. What is causing it? What fixes it? Will it hurt your engine? The answer is no it will not hurt your engine. There is no fix released by ford at this time. The cause is multiple things. The typewriter tick is usually heard at the bottom of the engine toward the transmission bell housing. Sometime you may hear a slight knock. Ford has a TSB on this. On top of the engine Ford uses a different intake manifold for the GEN 3 Coyote. The F-150 Uses the same engine but different intake. However. The noise you hear on top is the valves in the intake opening and closing. The noise underneath is nothing to be afraid of. They switched to a plastic oil pan which makes noises more noticeable. The tick has actually been around since around 2011. People are just now starting to realize this. So what do you do? Change you oil like normal. Document it. If you are hearing noises that get louder with engine RPM and stay consistent then you have another issue. If it is just the intermittent noise you have nothing to worry about. At the end of the video I posted the TSB. Also you see what engine oil I use which is called cerma. I have not yet done an oil change on it. Some reports are being that the engine was low on oil. This being because GEN 3 Coyote holds 10 quarts of oil.
