A live panel discussion at World Economic Forum 2023, joining global leaders from government, academia, healthcare and tech to explore how new multi-sector partnerships can help drive better health outcomes for entire populations. The topic addresses two burning health issues: health inequities and cardiovascular disease. To address both, we need to understand better what truly drives our health. Did you know, that only 10-20% of our health is determined by the healthcare we can access? The remaining 80-90% is determined by the conditions in which we are born, grow, live, work and age – known collectively as social, environmental and economic determinants of health. One way to challenge inequity is to generate data-driven insights that can help decision makers better understand precisely which of these many social, environmental and economic factors have the greatest impact on the health of a given community, and what concrete steps could have the greatest positive impact. These data driven insights help us take a population health approach, which means widening the lens from a narrow focus on healthcare delivery to a panoramic vision of improving health in the population at large, ensuring access to healthy lives for all. Panel details: Welcome • Jörg Reinhardt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Novartis AG; Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Novartis Foundation Panel discussion • Victor Dzau, President of the US National Academy of Medicine • Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT and Innovation of Rwanda • Ricardo Leite, Member of the Portuguese Parliament, President of UNITE and Head of Public Health at the Portuguese Catholic University • Peter Piot, Special Adviser to the President of the European Commission • Bill Weeks, Head of Microsoft AI4Health Moderation • Ann Aerts, Head of the Novartis Foundation This session is inspired by AI4HealthyCities, created by the Novartis Foundation, developed in collaboration with Microsoft, and implemented alongside a global network of city leaders, academia and other multisector partners to reduce cardiovascular risk in the urban population.
