Manipur : Is CM Biren Fighting A War Against or For Drugs? Asks Ex-Cop Th Brinda I Tamal Saha | NTT

Thounaojam Brinda, a decorated officer of Manipur Police had resigned from service under tumultuous circumstances. She is known for her aggressive operation against drugs, narco terrorism and poppy infestation in Manipur. She was a nightmare for drug cartel. The officer who was awarded Gallantry by the CM in 2018 for her crusade against drugs, had resigned from the force in 2021 alleging interference from the same Chief Minister -N Biren Singh. Brinda spoke with NTT and referred to a case where she was allegedly pressurised by the CM to release an alleged accused because the accused was a politician and reportedly a close aide of his second wife. N Biren's second wife is also the sitting BJP MLA from Chandel constituency in Manipur. Brinda has submitted an affidavit before the Manipur High Court, testifying herself over the case where she has levelled serious allegations against CM N Biren Singh. Amidst the current turmoil in Manipur, CM N Biren Singh had said the violence could be due to his fight against drugs, that he is trying to eliminate the menace from the state, something that had irked the mafias and drug lords. Brinda, the former Additional Superintendent of Police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), however, claims that there was never a war against drugs that the CM was fighting against and that he still isn't, now. " N Biren Singh isn't fighting against drugs, he is rather a part of it. He is a part of the drug cartel. He is protecting them, he is their patron" said Th Brinda. Report: Tamal Saha Camera: Rony Santra Edit: Aniket Datta Interview Excerpts - What Brinda said - The present situation has been accentuated by drug mafia. With the rise in drug proliferation, there has been rise of militants in the hills. It is very deep-rooted, specially the nexus between the government and the mafia. The rise in poppy cultivation - Could this have taken place without the patronage of the state administration? There are Six routes between Myanmar and Manipur, only one is manned and the rest aren't. Why has Govt of Manipur left the remaining highways open and unmanned? N Biren Singh weakened NAB - Narcotics and Affairs of Border, the unit that was meant to check the drug menace. Every time an Investigating Officer, IO, will dig deeper into a drug case, the officer will get transferred out. NAB wasn't given enough arms and funds were limited by the State Govt. Is there any real war against drugs? From my experience there isn't and never was a war on drugs. When CM N Biren Singh orders police to illegally release a politician, arrested in drug case, then how genuine he is in his war against drugs. Lukhosei Zou, former ADC chairman was arrested in possession of huge quantity of drugs. N Biren had ordered police to release him, remove his chargesheet from court. He is a close aid of CM N Biren's wife who is also the sitting BJP MLA from Chandel constituency in Manipur. DGP pressurised to remove the chargesheet, he had said he was asked by CM N Biren Singh to do so. Accused aide of CM wife disappeared from hospital. Biren scolded me at his office Judge was transferred and strangely the accused appeared before the court. I was transferred out of NAB. I later resigned from Manipur Police N Biren Singh isn't fighting against drugs, he is rather a part of it. He is a part of the drug cartel. He is protecting them, he is their patron. I have all the proof with me, want the case to reopen for further investigation. I want to submit all evidence against the CM and his second wife to the court. I am not scared. Poppy cultivation in Manipur has reached the pandemic status. I fear, the tentacles of drug mafia has reached the Indian Parliament directly or indirectly. We have informed the Central Government, written letters to the centre including the PM. No response. This could be threat to India's national security. Follow us on – Instagram -   / news_the_tr.  .
