Driving up the Sandia Mountains, NM 165. Albuquerque, New Mexico.

For a fun morning of venturing outside the city, we drive through the forest on NM 165 to get to the Sandia Mountain crest. It takes about an hour to drive to the top, with an elevation of 10,000 ft. There is wonderful hiking trails and vistas to be seen. On this day however, there were raging wildfires burning to the North and so the horizon and surrounding areas were hazy. This is a fun adventure for the whole family, and can be expanded to include more offroading in the nearby towns of Tijeras, Cedar Crest and Sandia Park.
