The dark chamber within Deathevan's lair hides Barubary, the demon from the game's prologue. Barubary is the hardest boss in the game, quite frankly. All of his attacks hit the entire party, and his normal physical attack gets stronger as his HP dwindles. After dealing about 1200 HP of damage, he challenges the hero to a one-on-one fight. Saying yes leads to a truly grueling battle. I took this route because of the extra challenge, and also to preserve the fusions of my other party members (fusions are lost when near critical health). He has about 1000 less HP in that fight as well, but victory is nigh impossible without a stash of extracts (often dropped from monsters on monster island) and a few Wise Balls for the G. Dragon (you only find a few of them, and I save them for this and Deathevan). It also helps if Ryu (or Kain in my case) has higher agility then Barubary. This is because once you've dealt another 1200 HP of damage, his physical attack becomes much stronger, enough to kill you in two hits. Being able to heal immediately afterwards is imperative. The treasure he speaks of is the Life Bracelet (protects from the death spell). You'll need to muck about in the dark with Sten's reach and also someone who can whack objects (ie: Katt).
