Despite their valor and vigilance, they lacked the might to pierce the dark heart of Angband. Morgoth, the master of malice, was far from idle. Behind his fortress's black walls, he forged an army of nightmares—Balrogs, Orcs, and the dread dragon Glaurung, all sharper, deadlier, and darker than any foe the Elves had yet faced. When he deemed his legion ready, they burst forth, a tide of fire and shadow. Accompanied by the earth’s angry bile—volcanic eruptions tearing through the land—his forces shattered the Elven defenses. They carved a path of despair into the south, their blades wet with the blood of countless Elves. Fingolfin’s realm of Hithlum stood, barely, its mountains a bulwark against the storm of flame and death spewed from the Iron Mountains. As kingdom after kingdom fell to ruin, despair clawed at Fingolfin's heart. Overcome with wrath born of utter loss, he rode to Angband, alone and unchallenged, his heart a furnace of vengeance. At the gates, he thundered his challenge, mocking the dark lord hidden within. Morgoth, 'mightiest of all things in this world,' cowered behind his gates, fear gnawing at his dark heart. This is a tale in the Universe of J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the rings.
