Sudarvizhi IPS Success story Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mrs. D Sudarvizhi was a perfect example of the fact if a woman was determined and focused she could achieve any goal even in hostile conditions and marriage or family issues was never a deterrent for them in scaling new heights in career. A 2007-batch IPS officer posted in Jalandhar, Mrs. Sudarvizhi hails from a middle class family of Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Her father was a banker and was determined to ensure that his three daughters excel in life. However, due to some family circumstances Mrs. Sudarvizhi, then working in India Post, was married at a young age of 21 years. She was then selected for a job in Civil Secretariat. However, determined to scale new heights in life Mrs. Sudarvizhi aspired to join the coveted civil services. The turning point came in her career at a point when her elder daughter was one and half year old. Constantly motivated by her father and husband, the ADCP decided to prepare for the civil services at that time. It was a gigantic task for her as being a working woman she had to work on several fronts at a same time. Apart from carrying on her job, she was required to take care of her little child and family. Due to her busy schedule, Mrs. Sudarvizhi could not attend coaching centres and focused on self preparation. But it was not again a cakewalk for her as before the main examination of the UPSC her husband met with an accident due to which he was severely injured and hospitalized during which Mrs. Sudarvizhi nursed him for around 30 days. After her husband was discharged from the hospital unfortunately her daughter got injured and remained in hospital for few days. Heartbroken but determined Mrs. Sudarvizhi appeared in the mains exam and cleared it to appear for interview. However, as the combined marks were not enough due to relatively poor score in mains exam, Mrs Sudarvizhi could not make it in first attempt. In despair, the IPS officer then decided to abandon the dream for becoming a civil servant but in another turning point her husband and family pursued her to achieve the goal and she got through the civil service in second attempt. Despite of all odds, constant support of her husband helped the IPS officer to achieve this rare feat. Mrs. Sudarvizhi overcame all the hurdles in her way through her hard work and dedication to prove the world that the word impossible was not a part of her dictionary. The IPS officer said that educated and empowered girls were the basic necessity for making India a front ranking country in the world. She said that Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign was a step in right direction to transform the destiny of girl child in the society. Mrs. Sudarvizhi said that all the girls should understand one basic rule that commitment and perseverance would always pay its fruit adding that girls should dream big, set their target and then put all their efforts to achieve it.
