NASA Astronaut Jonny Kim '12 shares what he learned from USD, how he stays grounded

"I didn't have a lot of confidence growing up... but trying new things, things that I was scared of, made me realize that we are all so much stronger than we give ourselves credit for." Before he was an astronaut, Jonny Kim had a few other jobs. He was a Navy Seal, a Harvard-trained physician... and he even handed out parking citations at the University of San Diego. He credits USD with providing him the foundation in mathematics to solve complex problems, and remembers the relationships he gained at the university most of all. This past Wednesday, Kim was officially named part of NASA's Artemis Team preparing to return to the Moon (and go beyond), alongside fellow alumnus Matthew Dominick '05.
