TV Jones Ful-Fidelity "Ray Butts" Filter'Tron - Not Just For Gretsches?!?

Welcome to Perky's Analog Gear Demos. Please subscribe for more demos of vintage & rare effects pedals! Today, I have a little treat for my lovely Gronlund R16 Junior. I've been looking around for an alternative pickup to the Porter PorterTron that it came with - something with a slightly lower output & more brightness in the high end. And, me being me, something as vintage-correct as possible. Enter the TV Jones Ful-Fidelity Filter'Tron...a no-stone-left-unturned replication of Ray Butts' original design for a humbucking pickup. Did Ray Butts invent the humbucker? Did he beat Seth Lovers to it? Did he file the patent before Lovers - only for Lovers to be awarded his patent first? Did Gibson steal ideas from Butts? I guess we'll never know!! So, this is as close to a 'proper' filtertron as it's possible to buy nowadays. But will it give me more dynamics & high end than the PorterTron? Let's find out! I did have to modify the pickup slightly in order to fit it into the cavity on the Gronlund...but, seeing as TVJ only make this pickup with the winged baseplate, I had no option! What do you think? Which pickup is your favourite? Comment below! Guitar recorded through a Dr Z Z-Wreck (Aston Spirit Condenser) and Dr Z DB4 (sE Electronics RNR1 Ribbon) with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic. www.facebook.com/joeperkinsmusic [email protected] Vector images by freepik.com
