Keeper for a day at Colchester Zoo - Scheme B

My wonderful wife got me the best birthday present ever; the chance to be a zoo keeper for a day! The day consisted of seeing and playing with the otters, cleaning out and feeding meerkats, meeting the gelada baboons and feeding the lemurs. We then moved on to seeing the lions face to face and feeding them. They were then put outside whilst we cleaned their den and laid them a new straw bed. The last part of the morning we spent meeting and feeding the amur leopard. We then had an hours lunch and a bit of a rest, plus time to take in all that we'd seen and done so far :D The afternoon started by feeding the red river hogs, petting the rhinos and then round the corner to the giraffes to give them some food. The whole day finished off with a visit to the nocturnal aardvarks, one of which probably thought it was the middle of the night as she was so active :D All along the way we were taught all about the animals we were looking at including their diets, behaviour and how they act in the wild. Not only was this an exciting experience but we learnt so much! Before leaving the park we were allowed to walk around until the park closed and were given a souvenir pack with a booklet about the day and a lovely mug all in a handy bag. The last thing I'd like to mention is that in the pack you get through the post describing the day you'll have you get a free meal ticket and a voucher for a free drink too. I cannot say enough good things about this experience and would recommend it to anyone! Thank you to all the staff I met through the day!
