Marlúcia Bonifácio Martins Marlúcia decidiu ser cientista e escolheu a Amazônia como seu imenso laboratório. Em 2005, deparou-se com a realidade do Maranhão: "Cadê a Amazônia que estava aqui?" Chocada com o índice de 80% de destruição da floresta, foi à luta. "Perde-se o solo, a água e principalmente a capacidade de produção de alimento. E quem é atingido por essa perda? As populações mais pobres". Ela é categórica ao afirmar que a recuperação da floresta é também a recuperação da dignidade das pessoas. Marlúcia Martins decided to become a scientist and chose the Amazon as her huge lab. In 2005, she discovered the state of Maranhão's reality: "Where is the Amazon that was here?" Shocked by the 80% deforestation, she started to fight. "We loose soil, water and mainly the capacity to produce food. And who suffers with this loss? Poorer people." She is assertive when saying that recovering the forest also means recovering people's dignity. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
