A micro documentary about Market 707 and its story directed by: Paula Kaston of Kaston Media (http://www.kastonmedia.com) Established in 2011, Market 707 is Toronto's first Shipping Container Market—located at 707 Dundas Street West, near Bathurst Street. Through the learnings of this pilot project, Scadding Court Community Centre has developed a social franchise model—Business out of the Box—to assist other local community groups seeking to create affordable retail space in the form of shipping container markets in their own neighbourhoods. For many aspiring entrepreneurs, access to the capital and physical space necessary to start a business is out of reach. As a result those who would benefit most from the opportunity to start a business are left with few options to get their great idea off the ground. However, with creativity and partnership, there are opportunities to quickly create affordable vending spaces and provide supports that will allow entrepreneurs otherwise facing such barriers to flourish. Business out of the Box can quickly and effectively transform underutilized urban spaces into vibrant, inclusive markets showcasing local businesses, talent while bringing people together to celebrate the local community.
