The Battle of Rorke's Drift | Anglo-Zulu War 1879

The Battle of Rorke's Drift 1879 - Anglo-Zulu War Join my Supporter's Club. https://www.thehistorychap.com/suppor... The Battle of Rorke’s Drift was fought dung the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879. A tiny garrison of 130 British soldiers held off a Zulu army of 4,000 for over 10 hours during a ferocious night fight. It resulted in the highest number of Victoria Crosses ever awarded in a single action and inspired the epic film: “Zulu” starring Stanley Baker and a young Michael Caine. It was the greatest defeat ever inflicted on the British by a native African army. Later that afternoon, the Zulu reserve decided to raid across the border into the British colony of Natal. In their way was the mission station at Rorke's Drift which had been converted into a military base manned by B company 2/24 Regiment of Foot. History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens. So rather than lectures or Youtube animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life. My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: "Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!" Just for the record, I do have a history degree and continue to have a passion for the subject I studied.
