It's for bloggers, businesses, authors, teachers, lawyers and more. Shopify on the other hand is just for online stores. Personally I use Squarespace for any small website that I'm building. For example, I use it to build my Mom's small business website and my music website. I do occasionally use Squarespace for small ecommerce stores. For example, I sell a vinyl record on my music website because I don't really sell that many vinyl records so it totally works.
