Native Instruments UNA CORDA [Demo - Original Track]

An original composition using the Una Corda from Native Instruments. The piano was originally created by David Klavins in close collaboration with composer Nils Frahm. The sample library, created by Galaxy Instruments, contains three sets of sounds - Pure, Felt, and Cotton. I had originally set out to write something using the "Felt" version of the piano, but I eventually switched it to the "Pure". There is a very distinct percussive sound found the Felt and Cotton pianos that I didn't necessary want in an exposed piano piece. I think they would be excellent choices for a song with more drive or rhythm or just to stand out in a busy mix. Compared to the Olafur Arnalds Felt Piano, the Una Corda has a "cleaner" tone and more versatility under the hood. For the money, there's definitely more bang for the buck. It has more dynamic range, a wider colour palette (via tone knob), adjustable noises (pianist, room, mechanical, pedal, etc), built in EQ and compression, etc. That being said, there's something really special with the OA Felt Piano that would make it worth having both, at least for me.
