Olsen's Blow Torch | FLY TYING TUTORIAL

The roots of the Blow Torch can be traced back to 2014, on a competition trip to the Czech Republic. Devin Olsen, founder of Tactical Fly Fisher, and his US Fly Fishing Teammates discovered the pattern from a local guide during a practice round. After a few tweaks in the hotel room that night, the now popular pattern was born. Olsen's Blow Torch is a tag nymph, a type of euro-style jig with a brightly-colored tail. This fly is characterized by an oversized tungsten bead, a peacock-colored body, a soft hackle collar, and of course, a vibrant orange tag. While this bug might not be an exact match for anything that exists in nature, it's the perfect blend of color and movement that make the Blow Torch irresistible to trout. In this video, Umpqua Feather Merchants Signature Tyer and Anglers All resident fly tying expert Daryl Eakins takes us through the process of tying the Devin Olsen's Blow Torch from start to finish.
