Kim Min Kyu first appeared on screen through the reality survival show, Produce X 101 in 2019. His dream to be on stage started when he was a drummer of a band in middle school. That was the first time he performed on stage and he fell in love with it. After thinking about what he could do on stage, he finally decided that he wanted to be an idol. To realize his dream, Kim Minkyu auditioned and passed in Jellyfish entertainment at his 11th grade of high school. In March 2019, Kim Minkyu represented Jellyfish Entertainment on Produce X 101 for the chance to debut in a Mnet boy group. However, in the final of Produce X 101, Kim Minkyu ranked 12th and was eliminated from the final lineup. But after that, he got many offers, including modelling, hosting and acting.
