“Grim, Grim Situation” | Undercover A&E Footage Shows ‘Shocking Lack Of Dignity’ For Patients

Talk’s Mike Graham is joined by former NHS chair Martin Gower to discuss Channel 4 Dispatches' undercover exposé of the conditions suffered by patients in A&E. The documentary gathered two months of covert footage from inside the emergency department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The footage highlighted patients being put through a ‘shocking lack of dignity’, including one patient who had suffered a suspected stroke waiting 24 hours to be seen, while another had to urinate into a bottle in a public corridor while waiting to be treated. This is following information that around 400,000 patients were waiting in A&E for more than 24 hours between April 2023 and March 2024.
