Tetris DX (Game Boy Color) Playthrough

A playthrough of Nintendo's 1998 puzzle game for the Nintendo Game Boy Color, Tetris DX. In this video I play through each of the game's modes: 0:42 Marathon mode with a game over on level 30 30:35 Ultra mode (same as Marathon but with a a three minute timer) 34:02 40 Line mode, heights 0-5 on level 9 50:51 Vs. COM mode 1:00:40 A couple of hidden bonus screens After hitting pay dirt by packing in copies of Tetris with the original Game Boy (   • Tetris (Game Boy) Playthrough - Ninte...  ), it was pretty much inevitable that Nintendo would release an updated version for their new Game Boy Color. Tetris DX adds a few new features in its bid to attract fans of the 1989 monochrome classic. The graphics are now in full color on a GBC, though it is playable on the regular GB and has Super Game Boy support. You can save your stats and progress to the cartridge, the "Ultra" game mode introduces a caravan-style score attack mode, the Vs. mode can be played against a CPU player, and the music and the cutscenes are all new. The new graphics are nice and the additional features are welcome (though they don't add much substance to the gameplay), but it's a shame that all the classic tunes were replaced with such flavorless and forgettable tracks. The biggest new "feature" is perhaps the glitch that allows you to kick pieces off the wall to move them up the playfield. Tetris DX is a decent way to play Tetris on the go, but it lacked any real value for the millions who already owned a copy of the regular Game Boy version. If you were new to the Game Boy in 1998, this would've been just fine. For everybody else, there were far better choices to spend $30 on. *Recorded with a Retroarch shader to mimic the look of the original hardware. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
