Jimmy Reed was originally a delta bluesman by birth in Mississippi, but made the move to Chicago like many before him to chase the dream of recording blues for Chess Records. He may not have made it to Chess, but he did score a recording contract with Vee Jay, and released a slew of classics like "Baby What You Want Me To Do" and "Bright Lights, Big City." After moving to ABC Bluesway, the hits stopped coming. But, that doesn't mean the records he released for Bluesway were less than stellar. This one is proof of that. "I Wanna Know" is a bit of a re-hash of "Baby What You Want Me To Do", but it's not lazy like the original.... no drunken vocal here. That wasn't his formula for creating hits, though, and his audience wanted him to slur his speech, I can only assume. This is a tough electric blues cut, and deserves way more recognition than what was given to it in 1967.
