Classic cut from Los Mortems 'Ægir Speaks in Waves' Los Mortems is a death surf band formed in 1966 in Lima, Peru. They are the first Peruvian surf band to have toured Europe and the United States. Los Mortems musical style is firmly rooted in the death surf, black surf and thrash surf of the nineteen-sixties. Los Mortems characteristic surf sound is defined through surfy and sinister death surf alternated with fast and aggressive counterparts. Frantic tremolo picking in the style of early Ventures and Los Belkings built on passionate rhythmic percussion topped with wailing atonal and melodic guitar solos comprise a potent mix which lives up to the principle of death surf technique to craft pounding ritualistic and spirited death surf. Guitars are forged from guttural rasps and often develop into high shrieks while ambients deal mainly with the occult and anti-Christianity. Nebiros Barreda, was a Peruvian surfer and surfboard shaper. He learned to surf in Miraflores at Makaha across from Club Waikiki, Costa Verde. A story is told of the school director telling his mom that Nebiros, aged 13, was being distracted and he had to study or surf, not both, and she replied "Nebiros will surf and play in a death surf band." The whole band surfed and spend the summers in Cerro Azul. The surf team Los Mortems would surf under they logo and a number of whom followed in they footsteps to be Peruvian national champions too. In 1979 they discovered the "Peruvian Pipeline", Cabo Blanco in northern Peru. Mermanthropes are a creature similar to Lycanthropes but they were created by Ægir so they go in the ocean in which case they are part 'Morsa' (Chinese Walrus) instead of part Wolf.
