Here we discuss escape velocity of a spacecraft leaving the gravitational field of another planet. Every planet has an orbital speed and and an escape speed. All orbits are actually elliptical in shape. If we continue to add energy to an orbiting object, the ellipse will get larger and larger and eventually the shape will change from an ellipse to a parabola. all orbital shapes are actually conic sections.
