GR5 Mountain Bike Transalp Epic – Bikepacking from Chamonix to Nice - Episode 5 - Utelle to Nice

This is Episode 5 of 5 films documenting our journey from Chamonix to Nice roughly following the GR5. In this episode we left the sleepy town of Utelle on the edge of the Cote D'Azur and immediately turned off the GR5 to head up to the Madone d'Utelle on the ridgeline above. The Tracks from here formed an amazing and challenging loop to head back down to the GR5 in the valley below. tFrom the valley bottom we climbed up to the holiday town of Levens (via the ice-cream shop) in increasing heat. From Levens on our last day, we then followed the GR5 roughly along bike tracks to traverse the rocky ridge heading toward Nice with some big climbs along to Aspremont where we traversed back on to the GR5 proper to finish the route into Nice on the GR5, all the way to the sea, on our last day which was hotter and much more humid than any day previously. The aim is to encourage anyone considering either riding the GR5 or just bikepacking across the Alps to give it a go - it certainly didn't go completely to plan, but it was an amazing experience nevertheless.
