Respiratory Distress vs. Failure vs. Arrest | EXPLAINED

What is the difference between respiratory distress, failure, and arrest? Watch this video to find out and for an overview of this topic. 💥Respiratory Distress, Failure, Arrest [Full Guide] ➜ ➜ ➜ https://bit.ly/3Npe4lL 💥Respiratory Therapy Definitions [Glossary] ➜ ➜ ➜ https://bit.ly/3g6s4Pj ➡️ Respiratory Distress vs. Failure vs. Arrest Respiratory distress, failure, and arrest are distinct stages in the progression of respiratory compromise, each representing a different level of severity and urgency in terms of medical intervention. ➡️ Respiratory Distress Respiratory distress is the earliest stage and is characterized by the body's struggle to maintain adequate gas exchange. This is often evident in symptoms like increased breathing rate, use of accessory muscles for breathing, nasal flaring, and possibly changes in skin color (such as blueness around the lips or fingertips, indicating low oxygen levels). The patient is usually conscious and may feel short of breath or have difficulty breathing. The causes of respiratory distress can be varied, including conditions like asthma, pneumonia, or pulmonary edema. ➡️ Respiratory Failure At this stage, the body is actively compensating to maintain oxygenation and remove carbon dioxide. As the condition worsens, it can progress to respiratory failure. This is a state where the compensatory mechanisms are no longer sufficient to maintain adequate gas exchange. It is characterized by a significant drop in oxygen levels (hypoxemia) and/or a rise in carbon dioxide levels (hypercapnia) in the blood. Respiratory failure can be of two types: Type I, primarily involving low oxygen levels, and Type II, where both oxygen and carbon dioxide levels are affected. Patients in respiratory failure might experience severe shortness of breath, confusion, lethargy, and potentially a bluish tint to the skin and mucous membranes due to hypoxia. They might also show signs of fatigue as their body struggles to maintain respiratory function. ➡️ Respiratory Arrest Respiratory arrest is the most severe stage and is a life-threatening medical emergency. It occurs when breathing stops completely. This cessation of breathing leads to a rapid decline in oxygen levels and a buildup of carbon dioxide, resulting in loss of consciousness and, if not promptly treated, cardiac arrest due to lack of oxygen. Respiratory arrest can be caused by a severe progression of respiratory distress or failure, or it can occur suddenly due to other factors like a blocked airway, a severe allergic reaction, or cardiac issues. The transition from respiratory distress to failure and then to arrest can be gradual or rapid, depending on the underlying cause and the individual's health. In respiratory distress and failure, immediate medical intervention can prevent progression to arrest. 💥Respiratory Distress, Failure, Arrest [Full Guide] ➜ ➜ ➜ https://bit.ly/3Npe4lL ————— 📘 FREE STUFF ▪ Free Cheat Sheets 👉 https://bit.ly/3IKenWk ▪ TMC Practice Exam 👉 http://bit.ly/2XlwASL 📗 PASS THE TMC EXAM ▪ TMC Test Bank 👉 https://bit.ly/3QNqwLX ▪ TMC Exam Hacks 👉 https://bit.ly/3iLmVS2 ▪ Daily TMC Practice Questions 👉 http://bit.ly/2NnXh3C ▪ TMC Bundle (Save $) 👉 https://bit.ly/3CWhdUn 📕 MORE FROM RTZ ▪ Test Bank (Free) 👉 http://bit.ly/2Kp73ln ▪ Glossary 👉 https://bit.ly/3g6s4Pj ▪ About Us 👉 http://bit.ly/2Xgk5YH ▪ Testimonials 👉 http://bit.ly/2x7b5Gl 🌐FOLLOW US ▪ Instagram 👉 http://bit.ly/2FhF0jV ▪ Twitter 👉 http://bit.ly/2ZsS6T1 ▪ Facebook 👉 http://bit.ly/2MSEejt ▪ Pinterest 👉 http://bit.ly/2ZwVLPw ▪ Rumble 👉 https://bit.ly/3p7IS0H ▪ LinkedIn 👉 https://bit.ly/41uO2lx 🚑MEDICAL DISCLAIMER This content is for educational and informational purposes only.
