Torremolinos is located on the Costa del Sol, on the western shore of the bay of Málaga and behind the Sierra de Mijas. It is located at an altitude of 49 meters and 13 kilometers from the center of Málaga, the provincial capital. In the 1950s, Torremolinos was a small fishing village that became one of the main tourist destinations for sun and beach in Spain, the first in Andalucía and on the Costa del Sol. The influx of foreigners, intellectuals, hippies, bohemians, aristocrats, artists, famous personalities and tourists in general during the 1960s and 1970s created a free and easy, permissive and cosmopolitan atmosphere that made it stand out from other areas of the Costa del Sol. The town's busy nightlife is prominent in the area. It is gay-friendly and has very accepting and uninhibited atmosphere.
