'Flower of Scotland' - Unofficial National Anthem of Scotland

'Flower of Scotland' is a popular unofficial national anthem of Scotland. The song holds a special place in the hearts of many Scots and is often sung , particularly in the context of sports and national celebrations. While not officially recognised as the national anthem, it is widely regarded as a symbol of Scottish identity and pride. The song was written by Roy Williamson, a Scottish folk musician and a member of the band The Corries, in the 1960s. It was first performed publicly in 1967. The inspiration behind the song's creation stems from Scotland's historical struggles for independence from England, particularly the events surrounding the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, during the First War of Scottish Independence. In 2006, the Scottish Parliament launched a public consultation to choose a national anthem for Scotland. The three songs that were considered were 'Flower of Scotland,' 'Scotland the Brave,' and 'A Man's A Man for A' That.' 'Flower of Scotland' ultimately emerged as the winner of the public poll, gaining the most support and becoming the unofficial national anthem of Scotland. 'Scotland the Brave' came in second in the poll. It's also a popular tune and is often associated with Scottish events and celebrations.
