The Railways that once Encircle an entire village ( Disused Railway ) Derbyshire once had a lot of Railways and Collieries that they served. That was there purpose. Today, most of these railways have gone, the collieries no longer exist, but we can follow the old railways that once dominated the area and oeice together the history. Holmewood was a small village, its grown since the mining heyday, surrounded by both pits and railways. In fact, it was surrounded as such that it was encircled.
