Named for the famed (and long past) Canary Restaurant, the Canary District began as athletes village for the 2015 Pan American Games, it was always the plan that these buildings would become condominiums and apartment buildings. The Corktown Common provides parkland and recreational space for the residents. Where the Distillery District was made to be a tourist draw, the Canary district was always planned to be more residential. This walk takes us from the Distillery District streetcar loop, up Cherry Street, to the Canary District, through the Canary District, around Corktown Common, to Underpass Park, where the Underpass Park farmer's market was in progress (its there Thursday evenings the end of May to the end of October), then up to King Street East as the end point.
