To keep the caliper in good working order, it is important to keep dust and debris off of the long rack gear in the caliper. I always keep my Starrett tools in their original boxes, but to go along with the heirloom quality of the tools, I wanted a create this wooden box to match this particular tool, since I use it all of the time. I didn't want to use magnets for this woodworking project because it attracts metal dust, exactly what I want to keep away from the caliper.
