Super Mario Bros. - Classic 1-up Trick Locations

Well, I've suddenly decided to go and make a video of all the possible locations that you can do the classic "kick the turtle on the stairs for 1-ups" trick in the original Super Mario Bros. NOTE: I used tool-assistance for most of these, as some of the setups are very tricky and a bit luck-based. Also, while I knew about most of these beforehand (or discovered myself as I was putting together the video), there were a few that I just learned about recently from a YouTube video called "Super Mario God Play". Link to that video, in case you're interested:    • Видео   (Thanks, SuperSupermario24, for pointing out this video to me.) These were all done on the NES version, but they should all work on Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES as well (and will probably be easier to do on that version). Also, unless otherwise noted, any of these locations for the normal versions of the worlds should also work just as well on the hard versions (marked with a * before the world number). However, there are certain locations that'll only work on the hard versions, as they require the goombas to have become buzzies. (0:00) 3-1: Ah, yes! Gotta begin with the classic location of the koopas on the ending stairs that most (if not all) of you should already know about! (0:16) 4-2: Buzzy on the short staircase in the second half of the level. Gotta be fast for this one. Might not be possible in *4-2 without doing a screen scrolling trick first. (0:33) 5-1: Near the end of the level, get a parakoopa to bounce onto the stairs to the right to do the trick. (1:00) 5-2 A: I learned this one from the "God Play" video. Near the start of the level, you have to be super and take an intentional hit from the parakoopa to get it to change direction and bounce towards the stairs to the right. The hammer bro might complicate this. (1:27) 5-2 B: Parakoopa on the stairs at the end of the level. Easier to do than the previous 5-2 one, but still a little tricky. (1:48) 6-1 A: Oh, boy. I just came up with this one on my own as I was working on this video. You need to start off super, and the hidden 1-up block must be present. Then carefully break only the brick above the 1-up block, and then scroll to the right until the 1-up block is nearly touching the edge of the screen. After that, get Lakitu to drop a spiny on the next brick over, then break that and hope the spiny changes into a koopa shell, bounces to the left, and hope that the koopa then walks onto the 1-up block when it comes to. And after all that, you still gotta line up your jump properly (take out Lakitu at this point)! Even with tool-assistance, this one took me a lot of effort! (2:33) 6-1 B: I learned this one from the "God Play" video. It's not quite as insane as the other 6-1 spot, but still very tricky and luck-based. At the place with the pair of ? blocks in the second half of the level, scroll until the ? blocks are near the left edge of the screen, and hit one of them to bounce a spiny to the right and hope it becomes a koopa and then walks to the right when it awakens (KO Lakitu while waiting for the koopa if you can). Then, do the trick over the bottomless pit and hope you don't fall! (You're less likely to fall on the All-Stars version.) (3:00) 6-2: Parakoopa on the ending stairs. This is probably the easiest one to do that involves a parakoopa. (3:20) 7-1: Buzzy on the ending stairs. Easy enough. (3:41) 8-2 A: Parakoopa on the stairs at the beginning. It really helps if you can get a nice bounce off the parakoopa and take out Lakitu first. (3:59) 8-2 B: Parakoopa on the ending stairs. Unlike in the video, you probably want to scroll the bullet cannons off the screen for this. (4:11) *1-2 A: This one's a doozy that I learned from the "God Play" video. You have to do screen scrolling tricks from the very start of the level so that you are nearly touching the right side of the screen by the time you reach the second power up block. Then stomp the buzzy on the high brick structure before it falls, then kick it to the left and stomp it again quickly. Use the power up block to help knock it into the proper spot if needed. (5:23) *1-2 B: Buzzies on the stairs near the end. (5:36) *2-1: Buzzy on the stairs at the start. (5:54) *3-1 A: Buzzies on the stairs at the bridge. (6:10) *3-1 B: Buzzies on the stairs just after the vine block. (6:25) *5-2: Buzzies on the stairs just after the first pipe. (I got lucky and pulled off a neat trick involving both buzzies in the video!) (6:54) *8-2: Buzzies on the stairs near the end. However, the bullet cannons will likely interfere here. Well, I think that's every possible spot in the original SMB, but if I overlooked something, let me know! Feel free to comment, but just know that I dislike profanity.
